The track and trace of a satellite firm (and why it matters to logistics)?
‘Detour risk’
Well, first off, the de-listing of Internet-of-Things firm ORBCOMM via a buyout may take a detour.
It received a $1.1bn bid, including net debt, on 7 April – the deal was disclosed the following day – from private equity house GI Partners. But so far that’s where the good news for its shareholders may end if the …

The port of Montreal appears to be on course for another flare-up in the confrontation between management and labour.
The past few days have seen an escalation in the conflict, increasing shipper fears of another crippling slowdown in operations.
Tension was already building when the seven-month truce, after last summer’s strike, ended in late March, with both sides accusing each other of negotiating in bad faith.
And in a vote a week before …

Heroes to rescue stranded gnomes? We’re a little short of them

A (light-hearted) Twitter poll by Flexport, which has some 43 boxes on the Ever Given, asked: should the company a) wait patiently; b) sue everyone; or c) carry out a daring hostage rescue operation? Perhaps unsurprisingly, the latter option won 60% of the vote, with people suggesting daring helicopter or drone raids, or making use of Flexport’s recent hiring of ex-marines.
Which leads us to the latest Ever Given crisis – …

New IT solutions the best hope to rebuild ‘smashed’ UK supply chains

IT solutions offer the best return to “normality” for forwarders, after Brexit “smashed apart” once-streamlined UK supply chains.
MD of Forward Computers (FCL) Richard Litchfield said the past decade had led to a “major improvement” in the organisation of road freight across Europe, but after the Brexit vote, worries had begun to set in over the resilience of systems.
“It used to be every road shipment was its own, individual project, but …
