Major container lines jointly launch Asia – East Coast South America service

Five of the largest ocean carriers are cooperating to introduce a new service connecting important ports in Asia with the East Coast of South America.

In particular, CMA CGM, COSCO, OOCL, Evergreen and PIL will jointly launch the new service on the Asia-Latin America trade in May.

The service will have two separate loops. The first loop will be operated by 12 container ships of up to 14,000 TEU capacity and will commence on 5 May from the port of Tianjin.

OCEAN Alliance rolls out new service network

OCEAN Alliance, consisting of CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL, has announced the launch of its updated service network, called “DAY 8 Product”.

After extending their partnership for an additional five years, the four ocean carrier allies are unveiling their new programme aimed at tackling the emerging challenges posed by the volatile conditions in the Red Sea.

Lack of newbuildings costs OCEAN Alliance’s Asia-Europe frequency

Since the members of OCEAN Alliance (CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines and Evergreen Marine Corporation) did not have many newbuildings join their fleets, nor reassign vessels from other loops, they struggled to operate their usual Asia-North Europe and Asia-Mediterranean schedules amid the Red Sea crisis.

OOCL expands fleet with introduction of 24,000 TEU mega vessel

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) announced the addition of a new 24,000 TEU mega vessel to its fleet.

The newest member of OOCL’s fleet was named OOCL Valencia at the shipyard of Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS). This box ship is the seventh environmentally friendly 24,188 TEU vessel in a series of twelve ordered by OOCL, as well as the first new OOCL vessel in 2024 to run OOCL’s Asia-Europe LL1 service.
