Hapag-Lloyd boosts rates from Far East to Europe

Hamburg-based container line Hapag-Lloyd has announced increased ocean tariff rates for Freight All Kinds (FAK) between Far East and North Europe as well as the Mediterranean.

The increase applies for cargo transported in 20’ and 40’ dry containers, including high cube equipment, and reefer for sailings commencing on 1 May.

Collaboration on pilot program for Maritime Book and Claim System

RMI and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping (MMMCZCS) are teaming up with the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) and Hapag-Lloyd to initiate a pilot program for a Maritime Book and Claim System.

Hapag-Lloyd and Seaspan partner to retrofit five container ships

Hapag-Lloyd and Seaspan Corporation have forged a partnership agreement to retrofit and convert five 10,100 TEU container ships.

These vessels, originally powered by conventional MAN S90 engines, will transform dual-fuel engines capable of running on methanol. Post retrofitting, the vessels will remain under long-term charter from Seaspan to Hapag-Lloyd.

Hapag-Lloyd removes Navegantes from ECX rotation, introduces new Brazil feeder service

German ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd has announced changes in the Europe East Coast Express (ECX) service.

From mid-April until further notice, Hapag-Lloyd said the vessels deployed on the ECX service will be omitting the port of Navegantes in Brazil.

Therefore, a weekly feeder service will be introduced between Navegantes and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil for both import and export cargo.

Hapag-Lloyd implements reefer surcharge from India to Arabian Gulf

German ocean carrier Hapag-Lloyd has announced the implementation of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from India to Arabian Gulf Ports.

The surcharge will apply to all sailings starting from 20 April 2024 and will remain in effect until further notice.

Here are the details of the PSS:

  • 20′ Reefer Container: US$100
  • 40′ Reefer Container: US$200

Arkas Line breaks newbuilding hiatus with four-ship order in China

Turkish box carrier Arkas Line has ordered four 4,300 TEU container ships at China’s CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

Arkas said the total contract value is US$240 million and the ships are expected to be delivered between February and August 2028.

The company said, “Built as an eco-designed new generation ship, the ships will support Arkas’ sustainability strategy by reducing carbon emissions thanks to their fuel performance measurement system as well as their capacity.”
