Οι ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας αναμένεται εντός των επόμενων ετών να γίνουν ακόμα πιο ανταγωνιστικές πηγές ενέργειες συγκριτικά με τα ορυκτά καύσιμα καθώς το κόστος τους εκτιμάται ότι θα βρίσκεται σε χαμηλότερα επίπεδα από εκείνο των ορυκτών καυσίμων.

Συγκεκριμένα, σύμφωνα με την International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), μέσα στα επόμενα δύο χρόνια τα κόστη των ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέργειας, όπως η αιολική και η ηλιακή ενέργεια, θα κυμαίνονται στα 3 λεπτά/κιλοβατώρα.

Biomass powered plant considered at Rotterdam

During November the European ARBAHEAT consortium will launch a research project to study the shift the ENGIE Ultra-SuperCritical coal-fired Rotterdam power plant into a biomass-fired heat and power plant.

This study aims to investigate how to cost-effectively convert the coal-fired power plant into a 100% sustainable biomass fired plant, able to deliver sustainable electricity along with sustainable heat. EU will fund this project with more than € 19 million.
